1935. At the Club Obi Wan in Shanghai, Indiana Jones and his pal Wu Han (masquerading as a waiter) encounter crime boss Lao Che, who is seeking the remains of Nurhachi, an ancient emperor from the Ming Dynasty. When the deal goes down, Che tries to poison Indy, but chaos ensues, leading to a running gun battle and pursuit by Lao Che and his henchmen, a pusuit that sweeps up local torch singer Wilhemina "Willie" Scott. At the nearby Nang Tao airport, with Scott and his ten-year-old sidekick Short Round, Indiana escapes from Shanghai. En route to India, their plane crashes in the mountains. After a dangerous ride down the Himalayan mountains and a raging river, the trio eventually come to a desolate village in India. The poor villagers enlist their help in retrieving a sacred Shiva lingam stone, as well as the community's kidnapped children from the evil forces of nearby Pankot Palace. During the journey to Pankot, Indy hypothesizes that the stone may be one of the fabled Adi Shankara Stones. The village's elder believes Shiva sent Indiana.

The residents at Pankot Palace are insulted by Indiana's questions about the villagers' claims. Later that night Indy is attacked in his room by a would-be assassin, which leads him, Willie and Short Round to discover an underground temple beneath Pankot. They find a Kl Thuggee religious cult, child slavery, black magic, and human sacrifice. The Thuggee have enslaved the village children to dig for two last stones within the mines of the palace. Mola Ram, the cult's villainous high priest, hopes to use the power of five united stones to rule the world. The protagonists witness a ritual in which Mola Ram bare-handedly digs a man's heart out of his chest. The man survives, his heart beating in Mola Ram's hand, until he is lowered slowly into a lava pit, causing the beating heart to burst into flame.

Indy, Willie, and Short Round are captured by the Thuggee and separated. Indy is forced to drink the "Blood of Kali", a mind-control potion which puts him into a trance called the "Black Sleep of Kali Ma," and begins to serve Mola Ram. Willie is kept as a human sacrifice, while Short Round is put in the mines alongside the village children as a slave laborer. Short Round frees himself and escapes back into the temple, where Willie is about to be sacrificed to Kali. He burns Indy with a torch, shocking him out of the trance. After returning to himself, Indiana is mortified at the thought of having nearly cost his friends their lives, asking forgiveness from Short Round. Although Mola Ram escapes through a trap door, Indy and Short Round manage to save Willie, take the three Sankara Stones, and free the village children. In the fight to escape the palace, the three jump into a mine cart and are closely pursued by two Thuggee-filled carts.

The climax leads to Indy, Willie and Short Round on a narrow ledge of a canyon. They try to cross a rope bridge, but are surrounded by Mola Ram and the Thuggee on both ends. Indy prepares his friends to brace themselves. He uses a machete to cut the bridge in half. Many of the Thuggee are sent plummeting into the crocodile-infested river where they are eaten, but Mola Ram holds on. In a final battle for the stones, the evil priest declares that they belong to him. Unafraid, Indiana invokes the name of Shiva, which causes the stones to glow red hot. They burn a hole in his satchel and two of them fall into the river. The final stone burns Mola Ram's hand as he grabs it. Indiana catches it and watches as Ram is eaten. Jones climbs up the bridge as Blumburtt and his Indian riflemen help defeat the Thuggee reinforcements. Indiana, Willie, and Short Round return to the village with their sacred stone and the missing children. Indiana tells the village elder he "understands its [the stone's] power now".

In the near future, during its return to the earth, a commercial spaceship Nostromo intercepts a distress SOS from a distant planet. The seven-member crew are woken up from the hypersleep and the spaceship subsequently descends on the planet. While exploring the planet, a three-member team of the crew discovers a derelict spaceship and a huge chamber inside it containing thousands of eggs. When a curious team member goes too near the egg the parasite inside the egg attacks him, rendering him unconscious. He is brought back aboard, the spaceship takes off. After a little while the parasite dies and his host wakes up seemingly unruffled. But other crew members are unaware of the living nightmare which is going to descend upon them when the alien creature planted inside its unfortunate host would emerge.

Dans la Chine du XIXème siècle, Li Mu Bai, virtuose des arts martiaux, possède une épée légère, rapide et magique nommée "Destinée". Elle est l'objet de nombreuses convoitises.
Las des combats, Li Mu Bai décide de confier "Destinée" à une excellente guerrière, Yu Shu Lien, à qui il n'ose pas avouer son amour. Celle-ci doit remettre la fameuse épée au seigneur Té, mais une fois la nuit tombée un habile voleur parvient à la lui dérober. A la résidence du seigneur Té, Shu Lien fait la connaissance de Jen, la fille du gouverneur Yu, qui a été promise à un homme qu'elle n'aime point et ferait tout pour mener une vie aussi libre que Shu Lien. Mais l'apparente candeur de Jen cache un sinistre secret ; elle travaille de concert avec la terrible Jade "La Hyène" et n'est autre que l'auteur du vol de "Destinée". Li et Shu Lien partent alors à la poursuite de Jen pour récupérer l'épée aux vertus magiques.

The year is 1936. Archeology professor Indiana Jones narrowly escapes death in a South American temple with a gold idol - by poison dart, fall, and finally a giant boulder that chases him out the front. An old enemy, Rene Belloq, steals the idol and then orders Hovito indians after Indy. Indy, however, escapes back to the USA, where Army Intelligence officers are waiting for him at his university. They tell him about a flurry of Nazi archaeological activity near Cairo, which Indy determines to be the possible resting place of the Ark of the Covenant - the chest that carried the 10 Commandments. The Ark is believed to carry an incredibly powerful energy that must not fall into Nazi hands. Indiana is immediately sent overseas, stopping in Nepal to pick up an old girlfriend (his old professor's daughter) and then meeting up in Cairo with his friend Sallah. But danger lurks everywhere in the form of Nazi thugs, and poisonous snakes in the Ark's resting place. After Belloq, hired by the Nazis, makes off again with the Ark, Indy & Marion are determined to get it back, and they overpower the pilot of a German plane. But Indy finds himself confronted with a giant German thug, and after a frightening hand-to-hand fight Indy & Marion blow up the plane. Now the Nazis must drive the Ark to Cairo, but Indy regains control of the Ark after running the convoy off the road, one vehicle at a time. Once again the Nazis recapture the Ark...and Marion, heading for a Nazi-controlled island. There, Belloq will open the Ark...to demonstrate the horrific power it can unleash upon the world!

Inagaki ably manages the rather complicated plot with unexpected ease (subtitles are employed to help English viewers make a few narrative jumps) while he charts Musashi's education in compassion and humility and his internal struggle with his conflicted love for Otsu. The direction is still as distant and unostentatious as in the first film, while the color and settings become richer and more pronounced: studio-bound locations take on the quality and delicacy of paintings. Toshirô Mifune defines the quintessential samurai in Hiroshi Inagaki's 1954 Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto, the first feature in a trilogy based on the epic novel by Eiji Yoshikawa. As in Kurosawa's classic Seven Samurai, which appeared the same year, Mifune plays a brash and ambitious peasant who desires fame and power as a swordsman. His dreams of glory in war sour when his army is routed and he becomes hunted by the authorities, but the "tough love" attentions of a kindly but severe monk help him develop from a hot-tempered outlaw to a thoughtful swordsman.

Inagaki's somber color epic is very different from the energetic action of Kurosawa's films. The sword fights and battles are practically theatrical in their presentation, staged in long takes that emphasize form and movement over flash and flamboyance. Mifune brings a sad, almost tragic quality to the samurai warrior Musashi Miyamoto, whose dedication proscribes him to a lonely life on the road.

Though the film stands well on its own, its stature takes on greater significance as the first act of Inagaki's stately, contemplative epic of the professional and spiritual development of Musashi, whose training and adventures continue in Samurai II: Duel at Ichijoji Temple. “Stardust” is Paramount Pictures’ bid to enter the “Lord of the Rings”-Harry Potter sweepstakes with a splash. Adapted from Neil Gaiman’s four-book 1997 DC Comics mini-series, which later became a novel, it is conceived by Matthew Vaughn, the director of the seedy British gangster film “Layer Cake,” as a full-blooded action-adventure fairy tale. Even when the movie goes haywire with an extraneous comic gambit involving an airborne pirate ship, it barrels forward with a fearless audacity. Far too many characters are crowded together for comfort, and there are serious casting errors, but the movie assumes that its churning energy, lightened with whimsy, will carry the day. And, to an extent, it does. The story follows the quest of a young man who promises his beloved to retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm.

A charmingly naïve boy from the English village of Wall travels to a magical, mythical world in search of the falling star that will help him win the heart of his true love in this fantasy adventure starring Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ricky Gervais, and Sienna Miller. There are a lot of road films out there. One of the most famous is EASY RIDER. But this is a film that has a little twist to it. it's also a chase film. I won't get into the story, but I will say the film is unique for its time. In fact, I don't know of a film similar to it now. This is one of the great films from the 1970s. I have no problem recommending it because at worst people might find it okay. But I doubt anyone would hate it. There is a lot here to like.

Action

One of Sidaris' earliest T&A escapades, and probably the most enjoyable, too. How can you not like a movie with a character named June Khnockers who uses her womanly gifts to distract and disengage the bad guys? Good move by the director in giving this key role to Lynda Wiesmeier - that kind of perfect casting goes right up there with, oh, Brando in Last Tango. Ahem.

So what we've got here is a silly plot about a mustachioed PI trying to uncover some malfeasance involving a wealthy family. In the meantime, he's got to contend with the advances of an assortment of astonishingly gorgeous women who tend to lose their clothing about 90 seconds into any given encounter. God, is this a great country or what?

Playmates appearing here in addition to Wiesmeier: Barbara Edwards, Kim McArthur and Lorraine Michaels, with the cute Miss Michaels unfortunately taking the worst acting prize.

And while Treat Williams and Kim Cattrall spark a smoldering chemistry, and Carroll O'Connor turns in a deliciously crusty performance, the film is stolen out from under them all by a fellow named Saul Rubinek.

Rubinek expertly embodies the tone-shifting stylings of Rodat's colorfully intense teleplay in portraying a memorably disturbed wacko named Morano. Using every idiosyncratic trick in his repertoire, Rubinek -- whose character-acting credits include such films as "And the Band Played On" and "Nixon," and guest shots on "Frasier," "L.A. Law" and "Hill Street Blues" -- manages to paint us a villain who is at once menacing and pathetic, devious and oblivious, scary and weasly. Note to casting directors: This man should never be out of work.

What Rubinek seems to grasp better than anyone here is that "36 Hours" is warped to the core. Rodat and helmer Yves Simoneau spend the majority of the film twiddling with the audience's brain cells, giving the action and dialogue a firm enough tug to make everything just a little off center. It's a credit to Simoneau's artful instincts, and Rodat's skewed characterizations, that we're never really sure if this is supposed to be a parody of the thriller genre or simply a crime movie filled with nut cases who ran out of lithium.

Williams portrays Noah Stone, a guy consumed with a death wish of unknown origin. He is a brewery owner who is felled by a heart attack as the film opens. Noah's twit of a brother, Frank (Alain Goulem), pitched in during Noah's convalescence by running his business into the hands of organized-crime slime balls who are so nasty that one kills people by stabbing them with a screwdriver. A guy after Joe Pesci's own heart.

Quicker than you can say Gambino family, the bad guys (led by the evil Morano) have managed to take control of the beer biz and have arranged to use it as the linchpin in extorting $120 million. Noah is understandably less than thrilled with all of this, particularly when his sultry wife, Kim (Cattrall), and two kids become sitting targets. He has 36 hours to keep the money from transferring to Morano's slimy paws -- if he can live that long.

It is right about here that Rodat allows the script to start growing increasingly preposterous. For one, it turns out that Noah is, inexplicably, one of the world's only brewery bosses who happens to be an expert marksman.

It must have rubbed off from his uncle, an intense former cop named Jack "Balls" O'Malley (O'Connor). It also clashes with reality that Noah should be such a devoted family man and yet every decision he makes seems designed to place his clan in greater jeopardy.

There is also plenty of incongruously jarring violence scattered throughout "36 Hours," some of it designed to be irreverent and ironic in that "Pulp Fiction"/ "Fargo" kind of way. To be sure, Simoneau allowed director of photography Eric Cayla, production designer Anne Pritchard and music creator Richard Gregoire an unusually free hand, punctuated by mockingly artsy slow-mo and classical opera to boost that Mafia mood.

Tech credits are generally sharp and imaginative.

Rambo First Blood Part II (1985)

With this sequel to his prize-winning independent previous film, "El Mariachi," director Robert Rodriquez joins the ranks of Sam Peckinpah and John Woo as a master of slick, glamorized ultra-violence. We pick up the story as a continuation of "El Mariachi," where an itinerant musician, looking for work, gets mistaken for a hitman and thereby entangled in a web of love, corruption, and death. This time, he is out to avenge the murder of his lover and the maiming of his fretting hand, which occurred at the end of the earlier movie. However, the plot is recapitulated, and again, a case of mistaken identity leads to a very high body count, involvement with a beautiful woman who works for the local drug lord, and finally, the inevitable face-to-face confrontation and bloody showdown.

When a comet unexpectedly alters course and strikes Earth, the Northern Hemisphere is struck by a new Ice Age. American Embassy Security Man Tom Parker had to leave behind his wife and daughter in Berlin and has been looking for a way back to find them.
